What you need to know

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has ordered a recall of about 2,140 ONTHEWEI baby bath seats because they can tip and cause drowning. Parents need to stop using them immediately, but the manufacturer and Amazon have not answered media inquiries.

baby bath seat recall

Thousands of ONTHEWEI baby bath seats sold on Amazon are being recalled, and neither the seller nor Amazon immediately answered requests for comment. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) says the bath seats are unstable and can tip, creating a "serious injury or death due to drowning" risk.

The recall covers roughly 2,140 ONTHEWEI‑branded baby bath seats that were listed on Amazon in April for between $40 and $50. The items come in gray, pink, blue and mist green, feature detachable restraint arms, and have suction cups on the underside.

What we know

The CPSC notice, released last week, states that the recalled seats violate the mandatory safety standard for infant bath seats because they can tip over while in use. The notice reads:

"The recalled bath seats violate the mandatory standard for infant bath seats because they are unstable and can tip over while in use, posing a risk of serious injury or death due to drowning."

Each seat is marked with "Model No: MY002" and a manufacturing date of "2026/1/10" on a label on the back of the product. The agency urges consumers to stop using the seats immediately and to contact ONTHEWEI for a full refund.

To ensure the recalled items are destroyed, the CPSC outlines a specific process. Consumers are instructed to write "RECALLED" in permanent marker on the front of the seat, remove the back rest and arm restraints, cut the three suction cups on the underside, and then send a photo of the destroyed product to the company. The recall notice explains:

"Consumers will be asked to destroy the bath seat by writing in permanent marker ‘RECALLED’ on the front of the bath seat, disassembling it by removing the back rest and arm restraints and cutting the three suction cups on the seat’s underside" and sending a photo of the destroyed bath seat showing the marked product to the company.

The CPSC’s warning highlights a broader safety concern: infant bath seats are not a substitute for constant adult supervision. While the recall targets a specific brand and model, parents are reminded that any bath accessory that does not meet federal safety standards could pose a drowning hazard.

ONTHEWEI and Amazon did not immediately respond to FOX Business’ requests for comment, leaving families without direct answers from the seller or the manufacturer

Consumers who purchased the recalled seats can request a refund by contacting ONTHEWEI directly. The company’s contact information was included in the recall notice, though the exact phone number or email address was not specified in the source material.
